As home invasion style movies go, this one actually has a pretty unique premise. A married couple go away to celebrate their anniversary and wind up being trapped inside the smart home, as an unseen dictator forces them to revert back to 1940s style husband & wife roles in a bid to save their marriage. The dichotomy between the futuristic home and the archaic ideologies was an interesting watch, but the ‘reveal’ was WAY too predictable from the outset. Jill Awbrey’s character Emma was infuriating which made her hard to root for. The opening scene felt a little bit abandoned and didn’t have enough relevance to the rest of the plot – instead just felt more like a last minute add-on to give a mild form of character development. The cover photo of the mask was creepy enough to make us wanna know what this movie was about so good call from the design team.
Kenny: 7.5 / 10
Very good pace throughout the movie. The big ‘twist’ was a bit too easy to predict but it didn’t completely ruin the movie for me. It isn’t one you have to think about too much – you can just enjoy the suspense, and in fairness, it kept my interest until the end. The two leads in the movie weren’t the most likeable characters as I rarely felt sympathy for either of them and instead just wanted to see what more ‘the voice’ had in store for them next.
