Short Film: A Real Pair
Writer / Director: Ed Willey
Runtime: 6 minutes
Short Film Rating: 7.1 / 10
A Real Pair, written and directed by Ed Willey is a comedy horror that was created as part of the 48-hour film competition, where entrants are given a character, line and prop and have to build a short film around those. Their offering is a fantastically funny storyline about a pair of best friends, renting an apartment for the weekend from an dodgy host – but how far will they have to go to foot the bill before they get the boot? (Puns absolutely intended.) The friends Tony (Simon Grujich) and Archie (James Alexander McInnes) have great chemistry together, establishing their character traits quickly and simply. The host, Crystal (Zena Carswell) makes a good villain – not too over the top, but creepy enough that it’s clear the AirBnb cleaning fee charges won’t be the only horror for the two renters. The silly puns and comedic timing are well integrated into the script, paced perfectly for a quick, simple & effective short film.
