Short Film: Leech
Writer / Director: George Coley
Runtime: 10 minutes
Short Film Rating: 8.3 / 10
Leech, written and directed by George Coley, features Mary (Sandra Voe), an elderly blind widow, that is completely unaware that a stranger (Graham O’Mara) has been living in her home. Carer Callum (Joshua Katembela) visits her everyday to help with daily tasks, and slowly starts to realise that something isn’t quite right, and knows it’s completely up to him to do something about it. The tension is palpable throughout, utilising camera angles and the suspenseful soundscape (Liam Fuller) to build the intensity. Even close ups of everyday items like dripping taps make you feel uneasy because you know what’s lurking in the background. This is a brilliantly executed short film, about a horrifying possibility, that keeps the uncomfortable atmosphere at the surface throughout the whole thing. One of the most shocking revelations we took away after watching this is that this is based on a real phenomena called phrogging where people actually live in other peoples homes in secret?! Be right back while we go search every single inch of our house for secret sleeping bags!
