Day 16 – Sissy – 31 Days Of Horror 2023 (Mini Review)

Day: 16

Film: Sissy

Type: Revenge

Country: Australia

Year: 2022

Kenny: 6.0 / 10

If I hadn’t read the description beforehand, initially I would have had no idea that this was a horror. It starts out quite light-hearted, more of a comedy/girlie drama, but does at least ramp up a little bit as the movie progresses. The main characters have an interesting enough storyline, and keeps you intrigued as to where it would go until “Sissy” starts on her reign of terror. The supporting characters are all pretty forgettable though which leaves this movie as a solid 6 out of 10 but nothing more than that.

Christine: 6.3 / 10

I love Aisha Dee from watching The Bold Type – so already was a bit biased into wanting to watch this one! There’s a lot more gore than I was expecting – and the psycho break is done pretty well. But there isn’t much tension or suspense leading up to when Sissy flips. It all is quite nice & straightforward – they could have shoehorned in a few creepy build ups or given us a few random jump scares just to give the initial 40 mins or so of the movie a bit more depth than just a few friends hanging out at a hen party. Once she does kick off, it’s executed well – the attacks quick, brutal & varied. Better than average but not super memorable – the end is very satisfying.
