Day 17 – Uncanny Annie – 31 Days Of Horror 2023 (Mini Review)

Day: 17

Film: Uncanny Annie

Type: Supernatural

Country: USA

Year: 2019

I loved this one – it wasn’t super clever or terrifying, just a fun, spooky horror movie with an interesting concept. A group of college kids find a creepy looking board game in their basement – Uncanny Annie, and as they start playing realise they are trapped in the game, a violent, ghostly, all-knowing game, that forces you to win to stay alive. This is basically a horror version of Jumanji and it’s great. Felt almost like an adult Goosebumps/Are You Afraid of the Dark? style episode (both of which i LOVED as a kid). They build the creepiness well and add enough variety to each scene / character to keep it interesting. Bit predictable at points, but a nice easy watch that is perfect for Halloween season.

Kenny: 7.2 / 10

What starts off as an innocent board game amongst friends quickly turns into more when they realise they are stuck inside “Annie’s” world, a game with no way out unless you play by her rules. I really enjoyed this one as the creepy factor was high and the storyline was simple, straightforward but solid. Although a full length movie, it’s actually the opening episode of horror anthology show “Into The Dark” where once a month a different film was released based on a holiday that month – great series with some great movies in, this one included! Hope it comes back for a 3rd season. Would recommend this movie to get you into the Halloween spirit.
