Day 20 – Open Grave – 31 Days Of Horror 2023 (Mini Review)

Day: 20

Film: Open Grave

Type: Dystopian

Country: USA

Year: 2013

Christine: 3.1 / 10

Started intriguing – loved the premise of the characters waking up and having no idea what was going on and who was responsible, but it never really gripped my attention. It’s a very lacklustre film, the characters are unlikeable and uniteresting, the ending feels uninspired and bland. It stays deliberately vague to keep up the mystery – but rather than making it intriguing, it actually just sucks all the tension out of the plot and makes it drag A LOT. When the end finally gives you the ‘big reveal’ it isn’t a satisfying payoff because you’ve already lost interest in the entire thing.

Kenny: 3.8 / 10

After reading the description – this was such an easy choice, sounded like it was going to be great, but it was a big disappointment. I get the movie premise naturally makes it hard for back stories on the characters, and storyline build up, but without it, its tough to be invested in any of them or anything that’s happening. Even the gory scenes you were desperate for more of a build up. Overall, it was a boring movie, which is a surprise considering the plot description!
