The bear scenes in this one were so unrealistic, that it was tough to get fully invested into it. The other scenes not involving the bear were decent enough, bumping up the score slightly, but if the budget is low or the SFX are poor – just don’t show the bear so much! It was VERY visible in every scene – would have worked better if it was lurking in the bushes or something, building up the anticipation of it appearing rather than constantly show it, because it cheapened what the film could have been.

Honestly, mainly picked this because we loved Backcountry and figured this might be similar – it was not! The storyline itself is average, the character devleopment between the two brothers is decently done – but the bear is just terrible. The SFX is really poor – the film was only made in 2015, but it feels a lot older because of the SFX. This bear runs through fire, gets shot hundreds of times yet still stands strong, it’s laughably bad! The injuries – such as Billy Bob Thornton’s ear hanging off of his face look like they’ve been done by a child, considering the cast is actually kind of decent this was not a win!
