This was actually a lot better than I was expecting. I remember the 2005 version of The Boogeyman being pretty cheesy, and although this isn’t breaking any barriers or pushing any boundaries – it’s a solidly decent, generic Hollywood horror with scares in all the right places. I’m never too keen on the ‘monster/creature’ being shown when it’s not a human or ghost as I feel like it detracts slightly from the scare factor – the SFX never quite matches up to make it realistic or terriying enough, in this case it’s not the worst, but still would have benefited the film slightly better keeping it a bit more obscure to keep the creepy tension a little higher!

A pair of grieving daughters get in help in therapy on what’s real and what’s in their imagination – problem is, the things they’re being told are fake are definitely not. Boogeymans been done before and the storyline is a staple of a lot of other horrors in the past, even without mentioning other versions of this film alone. The execution is solid, but unspectacular. It keeps your attention and keeps the scares frequent, but it annoys me when movies use the ‘dream scare/wake up’ moments a little too often – which this one did without really needing to.
