“Natural Audience Rapport“
3.5 / 5
Canadian comic Cobin Millage is now based in Scotland β well versed with national landmarks such as the Catacombs and Edinburgh Castle, though his advice for the castle is to save money by using your imagination with the rocks outside rather than paying the extortionate fees to get in.
Cobin paces himself well and seems to have genuine rapport with the audience in the intimately sized room, a humorous chat with friends rather than a rigidly organised comedy set. He comedically comments on the fishbowl window and the frequent, awkward interruptions that occur from punters looking for a bathroom before officially starting his set. He jokes about a variety of subjects β his talent visa, possible resemblance to Leonardo DiCaprio and the hellscape that is Vinted. None of the subjects fully link into each other which again gives the feel of an improvised, funny, informal chat, rather than a completely polished set, working well with his laidback, confident energy. Although not fully linked, he does a few call backs to jokes throughout, which helps to polish up the material slightly.
Partway through the show there is a random, very short, pre-planned sketch with a plant in the audience, which feels very out of place compared to the rest of the set and stunts the flow that has built up previously. Itβs very brief, so could quite easily be left out of the show for the better. He also brings a stand-in volunteer comedian from the audience to finish off the end of the routine which is a humorous close to this enjoyable show. Cobin has a lot of promise as a performer and with will hopefully remain a welcome addition to the UK comedy scene!
