Short Film: Embrace
Writer/Director: Axel Zeltser
Runtime: 2 minutes
Short Film Rating: 7.5 / 10
Running at only 2 minutes long, this is short – but spooky! Mélanie (Natte You) has a busy life, with her head constantly buried in her phone, ignoring her surroundings. That explains how she never takes notice of the metal bucket sat in the middle of an alleyway, catching a slow drip from above. While we’re normally advised to put down our phones and look around, writer/director Axel Zeltser encourages us to instead do the opposite, as Mélanie quickly comes to regret her curiosity. The soundscape in particular, is brilliantly efficient in drawing you in, from the innocently familiar tinkling ringtone, to the unsettling sound of metal being slowly scratched, it’s an effective short, with an enjoyably tense build up.
