Strings is a brilliant concept for a short horror film. Poppy and Sally are childhood friends, heading off on a trip to Italy for the summer before they head off to University. But, Poppy’s obnoxious friend Alex ends up joining them as well, creating a hostile dynamic that leaves Sally feeling like an outsider as they bully her both subtly and overtly during their stay. Introverted Sally is drawn to the traditional marionette puppets that decorate the villa, but why does she feel so tied to these mysterious little things? Combining fantastically graphic visuals of Sally’s horrifying ordeal, with the well-written dynamic between the three actors (Coco Jones, Calypso Lewis & Ashton Hunt), it allows you to fully invest into the storyline from the offset. It has a satisfyingly slow build up, with a brilliant culmination in the final scenes!
