One Small Mistake – Dandy Smith

β€œDetailed & Gripping”

Such a great read – never read anything from Dandy Smith before, but after this I’ll definitely be looking for more! The build up in the first quarter of the book is fantastic, slowly setting up the storyline and familiarising you with the characters. Elodie is an interesting narrator, her frustrations and motivations clear and intriguing, her relationships with best friend Jack, sister Ada, co-workers are all believable. When she disappears and the book takes a different turn, it’s brilliantly gripping – extensive detail is given to keep the reader on their toes and bring the story to life, and although you can predict some stuff, you’re constantly being spun in different directions with a well-layered plot, well thought out premise and a strong conclusion. The segments of Ada’s voice through her letters to Elodie are also excellently done and balance out the outlandish side of the narrative. I was completely hooked!
