“Captivating Cabaret“
4 / 5
Phoenix Arts Club has long been a venue that champions creativity, giving performers and artists a platform to showcase their skills. Each week they have a variety of shows with an assorted lineup, we visited their Sunday show which was a brilliant way to finish up the week!
Doors open at 6.45pm for a pre-show, where the talented Jazzy Phoenix belted out some songs with her very impressive vocal talents. It’s a shame her segment was so short and only as part of the pre-show because she is a great performer that is well worth a watch. The confusingly chaotic seating organisation where guests were shuffled around the room for most of the pre-show did interrupt Jazzy’s section somewhat, but she handled it like a pro!
Impeccable Vanity von Glow hosted the evening with a great balance of humour and class, brilliantly performing a range of songs against a backdrop of prerecorded visuals. Megan Rain’s bedazzled burlesque wowed the crowd, while Audrey Heartburn ramped up the energy with her maraca medley and Taytos temptations! Aerial performer Jools has a highlight performance on the pole, showcasing fantastic technique, while Guinness World Record holder Daniella D’Ville was another stand out, for her wince-inducing stunts and outstanding displays of strength.
As part of the premium tickets, you are entitled to a delicious signature cocktail – which on the evening we visited, was Flame of the Phoenix (Plymouth Gin, Archers, Chambord, lemon juice, grenadine, Ms. Betterβs Miraculous Foamer, orange bitters) which was perfectly mixed and complemented the included bar snacks (bread, hummus, olives & crackers) excellently. Outside of this, there’s a fantastically varied menu with a great bunch of drinks and nibbles, the cocktail list especially enticing.
As always, Phoenix Arts Club delivered a brilliantly varied evening, from a wonderful range of performers all at the top of their game. Brilliantly welcoming, great atmosphere and a promise that you’ll never see the same show twice. Well worth a visit!
