The Nurse – J. A. Corrigan

β€œToo Elaborately Unrealistic”

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

The beginning and middle had me absolutely hooked – Rose’s time in prison, Theo’s desperation to uncover the truth and flashbacks into the past to provide context and backstory into the impending murder – all brilliantly done. Both Rose & Theo are likeable, and the occasional flashforwards of being in court, add yet another glimmer of intrigue as to where the story would go. But the ending, despite being readable, becomes so elaborately unrealistic that it makes it hard to digest, and feels very removed from the otherwise well-written, well-paced narrative! The lengths that would have had to have been gone to for the bizarre plan to work is just silly and ridiculous, so plummeted my interest rapidly. Shame as prior to that it had the foundations of being a great little thriller! If you can suspend disbelief and just give into the conclusion – then go for it!
